Washington, DC – Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, released the following statement on news today that the manhunt for the suspected Washington cop killer is over:
"The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence extends its condolences to Washington law enforcement, their families, and their communities today as they grieve for the four Lakewood police officers killed while on duty on Sunday. America's police officers risk their lives every day to protect our communities, and we are deeply grateful for their service and their sacrifice.
"According to reports, the Washington shooter was a mentally disturbed multiple felon out of prison who somehow armed himself before killing those Lakewood officers execution-style. We don't know yet how this killer got his gun, but once again we see how lethally simple it is for dangerous people to get guns in America, helping them commit terrible crimes like this."
