Incredibly, the House Judiciary Committee voted against an amendment that would have given the Attorney General the authority to bar terrorists - known and suspected - from buying guns. 21 Judiciary Committee members voted against closing the 'Terror Gap' while only 11 voted for it.
Since 2004, individuals on the terrorists watch list have been able to buy guns or explosives over 1100 times. The National Instant Background Check System (NICS) includes names of domestic violence abusers, felons and other people deemed too dangerous to purchase a gun. Yet, terrorists are not classified as prohibited purchasers.
Legislation like this has been endorsed by both the Bush and Obama Administrations. It is time we hold our elected officials accountable.
